Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Clifford E. Held, age 81, of Waukon, Iowa were held December 15 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville, Iowa with the Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Bennie Fiet, James Klocke, Leo Flage, Glenn Manning, Larry Klocke, and Cletus Fish.
Clifford Ernest Held was born November 17, 1918 on the Ludlow Township, rural Postville, Iowa farm of his parents, August and Esther (Shafer) Held. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Presbyterian church and attended the Myron rural school and Postville High School. On October 7, 1943 he married Marjorie Mae Winke at Salem United Church of Christ. They farmed with Clifford's parents for seven years before buying the farm where they still live and farming on their own. They were involved with dairy and beef cattle, hogs, and grain and Clifford did some custom combining for his neighbors as well. Clifford was active in Bethlehem Presbyterian Church where he formerly served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol and several area flying clubs. He enjoyed flying his own plane and once built a helicopter. He was a good mechanic and carpenter. He also enjoyed restoring Model T's.
Clifford died December 12, 1999 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, one son, Keith (Virginia) Held of Bellingham, Washington, a daughter, Linda (Tom) Sweeney of Lynden, Washington and 3 grandchildren.
