Funeral services for Fred Charles Keatley, age 55, of Waukon, Iowa were held Monday, September 17 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Smedsrud conducted the 11 a.m. services. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon with military graveside rites. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Bernard Welsh, Jerry Welsh, Wally Troendle, Fred Rethwisch, Roger Quandahl, and Joe Hess. Honorary pallbearers were Ton Lydon, John Kerndt, Jack Marsden, and Wilbur Rose.

Fred Charles Keatley was born August 5, 1935 in Waukon, Iowa to Robert and Mabel (Smedsrud) Keatley. He graduated from Waukon High School. On September 12, 1959 he married Karen Byrnes at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing, Iowa. For 25 years, he was a self-employed carpenter and for the last six years he was a trucker with North American Van Lines Fox Transportation. At the time of his death he was working for Art Pape Transfer. In 1985 he bought Keatley Oil Company in Lansing, Iowa which is now operated by his son. Fred was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and had been a former 4-H leader and active in the Waukon Pool League. He lived most of his life in Allamakee County.

Fred died of a heart attack near Galena, Illinois on September 13, 1990. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister, Patricia Murphy.

Fred is survived by his wife, Karen; 3 sons, Robert Keatley, Dennis "Corky" Keatley, and Murry Keatley, and a daughter, Brenda (Rick) Langland, all of Waukon, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, Beau Langland, Erica Langland, and Alex Langland; and 2 brothers, Alfred "Hap" Keatley of Silver Springs, Maryland, and Melvin Keatley of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota.
