Former Waukon, Iowa resident and Waukon State Bank employee, Alden "Al" Howe died Wednesday, July 25, 1990 at his home in Pacific Palisades, California. Alden was the son of Leonard Alden and Blanche (Hinkley) Howe. Al was born May 3, 1909 in Waukon, Iowa. Al's father was the president of the Waukon State Bank from 1902 to 1919. The Howe Family were early Allamakee County pioneers. *See the Allamakee County History biographies for 1913 for an extensive ancestry.*

Alden studied business at the University of Chicago and later at Harvard University where he received his MBA degree in 1934. He was employed as the assistant cashier at the Waukon State Bank in 1936 and in 1937 moved to California. He had a distinguished 31 year career at the Bank of America in Los Angeles, California, where he was vice-president in charge of entertainment loans. He arranged financing for hundreds of motion pictures, both in the United States and abroad. He was especially instrumental in financing Disneyland for the Walt Disney Company and later helped finance Walt Disney World in Florida. He retired from banking in 1973.

Alden was an avid traveler and photographer. He had 327 slides accepted by photographic societies all over the world.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Elva.

Al is survived by his wife Jean (Smith) Leng Howe, whom he married two and a half years ago (about 1988); a son, Jim (Patty) Howe and a daughter Virginia Bertolini, and four grandchildren.

NOTE: The transcriber looked on the internet and found that Jean (Smith) Leng Howe was born August 22, 1912 and died April 13, 2010 in Pacific Palisades, California at the age of 97 years. In her obituary, Alden is mentioned and the son, Jim Howe and his wife are also mentioned.
