Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Forest Brainard were held Thursday, September 19 at 11 a.m. in the Forest Mills United Methodist Church, rural Postville, Iowa. Rev. Verdon Swenson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona, Iowa.
Forest Wilson Brainard, son of Amos and Cora Ophelia (Ewing) Brainard, was born September 21, 1910 in Paint Creek Township, Allamakee County, Iowa near Waterville, Iowa. He was baptized in the Forest Mills United Methodist Church by the Rev. Curtis Webster. He received his education in the rural schools of Allamakee County. On March 29, 1941 he married Vivian Cleora Sieg at Elkader, Iowa. They farmed in Allamakee County. He had also been employed in the Cherry Valley stone quarry and the Hygrade Packing Plant in Postville, Iowa. For a short time they had lived in Dubuque where he worked for a rock wool factory. They returned to the Forest Mills and Postville area. They have been residents of the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon since 1989. He was a member of the Forest Mills United Methodist Church, rural Postville, Iowa.
He died Sunday, September 15, 1991 in the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Clarence Brainard, Milo Brainard, and Charles Brainard.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian; 1 brother Adelbert Brainard of Luana, Iowa and 3 sisters, Irene Brainard, Alice Brainard and Beulah (Vincent) Bowers, all of Waukon, Iowa.
