Funeral services for Dina Hunsberger were held Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1990 at 1:30 p.m. in the Elgin Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ernest T. Thompson officiated. The organist was Kendra Fauser. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery.
Dina Sophia Hunsberger, daughter of Knud and Ellen (Halvorson) Kirkeberg, was born March 5, 1890, south of Gunder near Elgin, Iowa. She died Sunday morning, Jan. 21, 1990 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa.
She was baptized in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder and confirmed there in 1904. She attended the rural school near her home.
On October 1, 1909 she was married to Max Hunsberger at Elkader, Iowa. They had three children. They farmed in the Elgin area. Dina moved to Postville in 1972.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Max, who died in 1968, a son Elmer, a daughter, Edna, three brothers, Alfred, Henry, and Clarence, and six sisters, Ingrid Peterson, Mary Kirkeberg, Anna Anderson, Ruth Groth, Mabel Priovznik and Agnes Mork.
Surviving is her daughter, Maxine Meyer of Postville, four grandsons, Bruce (Lynne) of Decorah, Roger (Beverly) of Postville, Burton (Maryann) Marshfield, Wisconsin, and Russell (Mary Jo) of Waukon, a granddaughter, Beverly (Jerry) Loftsgard of Elgin, Iowa, 11 great grandchildren, Tami, Dawn and Benjamin Meyer, Eric, Shannon and Jillian Meyer, Elise and Evan Meyer, Bailey and Nathan Meyer and Joshua Loftsgard.
Dina was a member of the Elgin Lutheran Church.
Casket Bearers were Bruce Meyer, Roger Meyer, Burton Meyer, Russell Meyer, Jerry Loftsgard and James Meyer.
