Elmer A. Hoth

Elmer Alfred Hoth, the son of Charles H. Hoth and Sophia (Klemme) Hoth, was born November 12, 1900 at Postville. He was baptized in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on December 26, 1900 and confirmed in Zion Reformed Church, Waukon in April 1916. He died at the Community Memorial Hospital on October 19, at the age of 61 years, 11 months and seven days, following a brief illness.

He was married to Ella Meyer [Meier] at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Postville on February 2, 1923. To this union were born two sons. Following his marriage he worked in the lumber business in Postville and in other Iowa communities for 25 years. He then operated a hardware store in Postville in partnership with his brother, Clarence for 15 years. In the last few years he has worked with his son, Charles, in the Hoth Motor Co.

He was a state representative for this area in the Iowa legislature for four years. He served as a member of the St. Paul's Church Council during the time that the church was being built, and was a member of the Postville School Board, was active in the Kiwanis and Commercial Clubs in the community, and was a member of the Postville Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Charles and John of Postville; one brother, Clarence of Postville; two sisters, Hazel, Mrs. William Behrens of Racine, Wisconsin and Florence of Postville; a grandson, Frederick Hoth; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville on October 22, at 2:00, with the pastor, the Rev. Charles E. Witt, officiating. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
