Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, 1990 for Marie Sophie Straate, age 93, at the Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Pallbearers were Larry Straate, Dan Straate, Neil Krumme, Chester Thiele, Alden Wiley, and James Feuerhelm.

Marie Sophie Straate was born September 10, 1896 in Jefferson Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, daughter of Henry and Caroline (Hansmeier) Straate. She attended Jefferson #1 School. She had worked at the Lansing Button Company making buttons and in the dietary department of the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. She was a member of the Zion UCC and its Women's Fellowship. She was a former accompanist for the Sunday School at Zion.

Marie died Wednesday, April 11, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Caroline, Ella, Lisette, Emma and Clara and 4 brothers, William, Edwin, Fred, and Charles.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
