Funeral services for Irene W. Bugenhagen, age 87, of Waukon, Iowa were held Tuesday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Chapel, Waukon, Iowa. Rev. Larry Olson officiated. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Earl Schulte, Herman Willger, Bud Johnson, Ken Krambeer, Gary Houg, and Chester Thiele.

Irene M. Bugenhagen, daughter of Albert B. and Anna Mathilda (Goettel) Thomson, was born October 2, 1904 on the family farm near Waukon, Iowa. She received her elementary education at the Waukon, Iowa school. She moved to the rural Postville, Iowa area with her parents when a young girl. She graduated from the Postville High School. She taught school for a time at Hickory Creek and Cherry Valley rural schools. On October 30, 1935 she was united in marriage to Arno J. Bugenhagen at the Rev. Van Nice home in Waukon, Iowa. After her marriage they moved to Luana and in 1960 they moved to Waukon, Iowa. She and Arno liked to spend time to themselves. Irene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, Iowa.

Irene died October 18, 1991 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arno, who died March 22, 1982 and a brother LeRoy Thomson.

Survivors include a brother, Clarence Thomson of Postville, Iowa, sister-in-law Margaret Thomson of California and Gertrude Kaiser of Monona, Iowa; a niece Bonnie and a nephew Tom.
