Funeral services for the Rev. Karlton W. Wagner were held Friday, August 16, 1991 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson and the Rev. Charles Miller officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Dennis and Corinne Cook, Clifford and Sherry Knudtson, Barb Cook, Randy and Kathy Hoth, Linn and Gayle Heithoff.

The Reverend Karlton Wayne Wagner, son of Arthur Joseph and Margaret (Oldag) Wagner was born October 8, 1926 in Decorah, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday August 13, 1991 at his home in Postville, Iowa.

He was baptized in the Decorah Lutheran Church on December 23, 1926 by the Rev. O. Glesne and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church on March 17, 1940 by the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig. His parents moved to the farm of his maternal grandparents, Henry and Louisa Oldag, shortly after his birth. Karlton grew up there. He received his education at the Luana Consolidated School and graduated from high school in 1944. After graduation he entered the University of Dubuque and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1947. He entered the Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. After two years he transferred to Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he received his Master of Divinity Degree on May 1, 1950.

He was ordained on November 19, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa by the Rev. Frederick D. Boldt, President of the Iowa Synod of the United Lutheran Church in America, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Frederick R. Ludwig. Following his ordination, he served as assistant pastor at Lutheran churches in Milwaukee, Wauwautosa, and Appleton, Wisconsin. He also took a year of hospital chaplaincy and social service work in Chicago, Illinois. On December 1, 1963 Karlton was installed as pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton, Iowa where he remained for ten years. He served Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa from December 1, 1973 until May 1, 1984 when he took disability retirement and moved to Postville, Iowa. Rev. Wagner was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his two sisters, Marilyn (Reuben)Hoth of Monona, Iowa and Ardyth Cook of Postville, Iowa; 8 nephews and nieces, Randy Hoth, Leland Hoth, Gayle Heithoff, Alan Hoth, David Hoth, Sherry Knudtson, Dennis Cook and Barbara Cook.
