Roberta Jean Livingood

Roberta Jean (Ralston) Livingood, 87, Postville, Iowa, died May 8, 2011, at the New Hampton Care Center in New Hampton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Earl J. Ralston and Phoena Ann (Evans) Ralston born on March 11, 1924, on her parent's farm southwest of Rossville, Iowa. She attended the Bear Hollow Country School in Franklin Township and the Waukon High School.

As a child she spent many hours roaming the hills and valleys and helping with chores on her parent's farm. She took pride in the fact that she was a middle child of nine siblings. There were four older than her and four younger. She also had 4 sisters and 4 brothers. In 1945 she worked at Carr, Adams and Collier Sash and Door Factory in Dubuque, Iowa.

On February 27, 1946, she married William Livingood at the "Little Brown Church" near Nashua, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Nancy, Phyllis and Cyril. They farmed together for many years, until they moved to northwest of Postville where William and their son, Cyril, were in the auto body business for several years. In 1995 they moved to Waukon to Southcrest Senior Housing where they lived until moving to Fredericksburg, Iowa, in 2005.

Roberta was a 51 year member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. She served as a deacon, was a member of UPW and served a term as President. She served as chairperson of the Sewing Committee and the Funeral Serving Committee for several years. In 1952 she was baptized as an adult by Rev. Walter T. Martin.

She was a member of Postville Senior Citizen Club. She enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms, playing cards, sewing and dancing. She loved her family and all family gatherings.

Preceding her in death were her parents; twin infants, Marilyn and Marvin in 1954; daughter, Nancy Rothmeyer, Casper, WY, in 1976; son-in-law, Frank Wickham Sr., New Hampton, daughter-in-law, June Livingood, Frankville; grandson, Shane Rothmeyer; granddaughter, Kendra Lee Wickham in 1967; three sisters and their husbands, Beulah and Milo Livingood, Postville, Helen and George Gelo, Waukon, Marjorie and Ruben Shutte, Decorah; three brothers, Curtis Ralston age 6, Dale Ralston and his wife Mildred, Lenexa, KS, Gerald Ralston, Escondido, CA and sister-in-law, Pat Ralston, Los Angeles, CA.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Phyllis Wickham, New Hampton; son, Cyril Livingood, Frankville; son-in-law, Arthur Rothmeyer, Casper, WY; former daughter-in-law, Pamela Livingood, Postville; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; Shawn Rothmeyer and friend, Sandy Ladwig, Casper, WY; Frank Wickham Jr., Ionia, children, Brooke, Beth, and Mariah, Chad and Laura Wickham, Savage, MN, children, Dakota and Carter, Gloria Wickham Boyd, Waterloo, children Jerry and Jessica Boyd, Tammy and Kody Kottke, Fredericksburg, children, Cade and Quinn, Mark and Melissa Livingood, Parkersburg, children, Sam and Kate, Cybrill (Livingood Smith) Burch, Des Moines, children, Donovan and Gabriel; sister, Lucille (Wilburt) Topel, Milwaukee, WI, brother, Leon (Pauline) Ralston, Dubois, WI, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at 1:30 pm at Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Gary Catterson will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2011, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa, before funeral services.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
