Janice Glaim

Janice Glaim peacefully passed away Friday, May 13, 2011 at her apartment in Lino Lakes, MN with her husband and daughters at her bedside. Janice had reached the age of 85 years. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 17 at the Frankville Community Presbyterian Church at Frankville, with Pastors Paul Snyder and Matthew Perkins officiating. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren. Inurnment took place in the Frankville Cemetery at a later date.
Janice Nellie Brainard was born April 25, 1926 at rural Postville, the daughter of George and Eva (Smith) Brainard. She attended country school and graduated from Postville High School in 1944. Janice taught school at several country schools. June 1, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Leland Walby, at the Postville Presbyterian Church. She became a farmer’s wife and her most cherished role, mother to four daughters.
She also worked with Leland in their Funk’s G Hybrid Seed Corn business. Janice was a member of both the Frankville Presbyterian Church and Chisago Baptist Church, United Presbyterian Women, Willing Workers, Winneshiek County Historical Society, taught Sunday School, and served as a U.S. Census taker.
Janice greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a devoted grandmother. She liked gardening, traveling, playing cards, bowling, shopping, driving, and listening to music. In her youth, she loved to roller skate with her siblings and playing her cornet in the band.
After Leland’s death, Janice moved to Chisago City, MN in November 2005. August 13, 2006, she married Helmer Glaim, at the Chicago Baptist Church. She and Helmer enjoyed their time together reading the Bible, singing hymns, and spending time with family.
She is survived by her husband, Helmer; three daughters, Mary (Tom) Froelke of Cresco, Laura (Larry) Geno of Lindstrom, MN, and Wendy (Joe) Froelke of Forest Lake, MN; a son-in-law, John Rupnick of West Seattle, WA; 14 grandchildren, Magellan (Jenny) Anderson of Everett, WA, Nikolas Walby of West Seattle, WA, Dallas Rupnick of West Seattle, WA, Chantilly (Chris) Mincks of Frankville, Leland (Niki) Froelke of LaCrosse, WI, Alexander (Jennie) Froelke of Oak Harbor, WA, Noah (Teresa) Froelke of Decorah, Angela (Thomas) Geno-Stumme of Cedar Rapids, Joshua (Carrie) Geno of Wellman, Micah Geno of Lindstrom, MN, Zachariah Geno of Lindstrom, MN, Joshua Froelke of Forest Lake, MN, Jeremy Froelke of St. Paul, MN, and Alicia Froelke of Forest Lake, MN; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray (Darlene) Brainard, Gene (Charlene) Brainard, and Edgar (Shirley) Brainard; two sisters, Barbara Schori and Bernice Friederich; and a sister-in-law, Donna Brainard.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Walby; her daughter, Jana (Walby Anderson) Rupnick; her parents; four brothers, Dale, Lee, Keith, and John Brainard; two sisters-in-law, Erna Brainard and Jenetta Brainard; three brothers-in-law, Leslie Poesch, Lester Friederich, and Kenneth Schori; a nephew, Bradley Brainard; and a niece, Rhonda (Brainard) Radloff.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville assisted the family with arrangements.
