Victory Leiran Halvorson, age 81, of Waterville, Iowa, died Sunday, February 13, 2000 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Waterville Lutheran Church in Waterville, Iowa with Rev. Kim Thacker officiating. Burial was in the Waterville Lutheran Church Cemetery. Honorary casketbearers were Tracey Wittrock, Rogeta Halvorson, Lisa Goodwin, Debra Mink, Meghan and Mary Halvorson. Casket bearers were Wes, David, Gary, Casey, Jay, and Michael Halvorson, and Tim Walrod.

Vic was born November 30, 1918 on the Round Prairie, Makee Township, rural Waukon, Iowa farm of his parents Hans Martin and Hannah (Leiran) Halvorson. He was baptized at the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church and attended the rural "Hanson School". He began working for Carl and Selena Busness, who had helped raise him following his mother's death, by helping on the farm, hauling cream and driving school bus. On October 10, 1936 Victory married Ruby Zahrt Jenson at Galena, Illinois. They continued farming with the Busnesses until they starting operating the Jenson home place farm near Waterville, Iowa. They also worked as the Standard Oil distributors in the Waterville area. From 1951 until 1984 when Vic and Ruby retired, they had served as joint custodians and bus drivers for the Waterville School. They were hard working in this capacity, keeping the school clean and supplied, accommodating the changing needs of the classrooms, and most of all being the friends to all of the students who very much liked Vic and Ruby.

Victory was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Marcus Halvorson, Herbert Halvorson, and Paul Halvorson; 2 sisters, Edna Lippe, and Martha Sorum; a grandson and a granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife Ruby; 3 sons, Roger (Connie) Halvorson of Marquette, Iowa, Donald (Launee) Halvorson, and William (Linda) Halvorson, both of Waterville, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Norma Johnson of Waukon, Iowa and Wilma Roberts of Waterloo, Iowa; and 2 brothers, Tennis Halvorson of Waukon, Iowa and Orrin (Esther) Halvorson of Crookston, Minnesota.
