Wagner, age 67, of Waukon, Iowa who died Wednesday, March 6, 1991 at the Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa. The 10:30 services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in the Wexford Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were George Delaney, Ray Wagner, Vince Mullarkey, Pat Curran, Leo Byrnes, and Maurice Mooney. Honorary pallbearers were John and Hazel Hennessy, Wes and Carolyn Sampson, Francis and Leonette Kernan, and Leo and Marcella Mullarkey.
A lifetime area resident, Alberta was born June 24, 1923 near Waterville, Iowa to John and Elizabeth (Crowe) Unterberger. She attended elementary school at the rural Sixteen school and graduated from the Waterville High School and Winona State University with ha BA degree in elementary education. She also took numerous courses at other colleges and universities during her teaching career. She taught elementary school in Waterville, Iowa and McGregor, Iowa, and 23 of her 34 years of teaching was spent at Eastern Allamakee School in Lansing, Iowa. She retired in May 1985.
On October 6, 1947 she married Francis Wagner at St. Pius Catholic Church, Cherry Mound, rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa. They moved to Waukon from a Wexford area farm in 1987. She was a member of St. Patrick's and its Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by a son, Alan Wagner in 1986; a brother, Cletus Unterberger, and 2 sisters, Raephella Huffman, and Cecelia Unterberger, in infancy.
Surviving are her husband, Francis; 3 daughters, Linda (Mike) Stowe of Plymouth, Minnesota, Fran (Dr. Kenneth) Zichal) of Elkader, Iowa, and Mary Lynn (Bruce) Revoir of Waukon, Iowa; a son, Greg Wagner of Buffalo, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Wagner of Hokah, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Linus Unterberger of Waukon, Iowa, and 2 sisters, Mary (Andy) Kozak of Blue Island, Illinois and Rita Small of Bloomington, Wisconsin.
