Maxine Emma Suddendorf

Maxine Emma Suddendorf, 84, Postville, Iowa, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. Maxine was born on August 31, 1926, in Postville, Iowa, to Otto and Florence (Saueressig) Appel. She was baptized on November 14, 1926 and confirmed on March 17, 1940. She graduated from Postville High School.

Maxine was united in marriage to Eugene Suddendorf on April 6, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. Maxine worked at the bakery in Monona, Iowa, from 1944 to 1947, and she also worked at Montgomery Wards store in Postville, Iowa. She owned the Palm Cafe in Postville, Iowa, from 1959 to 1963. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Suddendorf; three children, Ronald (Sandra) Suddendorf, Ann Arbor, MI, Gary (Kathe) Suddendorf, Saline, MI, Kevin (Wendy) Suddendorf, Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Jansen, Erich (Stephannie) Suddendorf, Kylie and Kole Suddendorf; one sister, Vivian Buren, Postville and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Florence Appel; one sister, Verda Youngburg and one brother-in-law, Francis Buren.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, from 4-7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday, March 9, 2011.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Home of Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
