Arnold Gunderson

Arnold Lyle Gunderson, 88, of Postville died Friday, March 4, 2011 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, March 8 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, with Rev. Steve Brackett officiating. Burial followed in the Postville Cemetery in Postville.
Arnold was born November 25, 1922 in St. Olaf to Ralph and Alma (Cristianson) Gunderson. He was baptized January 14, 1923 and confirmed July 11, 1937 at the Norway Lutheran Church in St. Olaf. He attended Dry Run Country School and graduated from Elkader High School. He served honorably in the United States Army during WWII from 1946 to 1947.
Arnold was united in marriage to Kay Irene Smith August 6, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. One son was born to this union. Arnold farmed his entire life until retirement. He was a member of the Farmers Home Administration Board. He was also an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, serving on the church council.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Gunderson; one son, Gary (Diana) Gunderson of Postville; one granddaughter, Alexis Gunderson of Basalt, CO; one great-granddaughter, Emma; five siblings, Dean (Clarian) Gunderson of Postville, Ruby Torkelson of Monona, Doris Niedert of Waterloo, Fern (Bernard) Templeton of Waverly, and Betty Holm of Waverly; and one sister-in-law, Jan Gunderson of Fairbank.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph Gunderson; and three brothers-in-law, Quentin Torkelson, Lloyd Niedert and Duane Holm.
