Richard D. Schmidt, Sr., age 64, of Sabetha, Kansas died Wednesday August 28, 1985 in the Sabetha hospital. Funeral services were held Friday, August 30 at 8 p.m. at the Popkess Funeral Home in Sabetha, and at 10 a.m. Monday, September 2 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church with the Rev. April Larson as officiant. Burial was in the OWPC Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Military anbd Masonic Rites were held at graveside.

Schmidt worked for the Milwaukee railroad and was a hog buyer for Armour Meat Company, including the time when he lived in Waukon, Iowa.
He was born in Mason City, Iowa on February 6, 1921. He attended schools there and served in the army during World War II. He was a member of the Sabetha VFW, the American Legion, the Masons and the Schriners.

He is survived by his wife, the former Thelma Plants; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Leuchtenmacher of Waukon, Iowa; two sons, Frank Schmidt of Houston, Texas and Richard Schmidt, Jr. of Nebraska City, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
