John Juergen Christian Harnack was born on July 21, 1827 in Canon, Mecklenburg Schwerein, Germany, and came to this country in 1852 and settled at Guttenbcrg where he was married to Dorothea Sass who died four years ago. Seven children were born to this union. They lived at different places in Clayton county and in 1878 he moved to a farm near Postville where he resided until 1857 when he moved to Postville. After the death of his wife he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. John Schroeder where he passed away on last Friday afternoon at 4:30. He was the oldest German residing in this community. He was a member of Saint Pau1s Lutheran church and a constant attendant at all church doings. His passing is mourned by the children; John Harnack, Mrs. Aug. Dahl, Mrs. John Krambeer, Mrs. Joe Schultz, Mrs. Louis Meyer and Mrs. John Schroeder, 26 grand children and l8 great grand children besides many other relatives and friends. Funeral was held Monday afternoon.
