Richard Reed Meyer, age 63, of Madison, Wisconsin, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at Mineral Point Care Center, Mineral Point, Wisconsin. He was born April 8, 1947 in LaCrosse, Wisconson, the son of Harry W. and Juliet (Reed) Meyer. He attended grade schools at Waterville, and Lansing, Iowa. He graduated in 1965 from the Waukon High School in Waukon, Iowa. He attended the University of Wisconsin in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and then served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Oscar Meyer for eleven years, before farming near New Glarus, Wisconsin where he raised Hereford cattle, of which he was very proud. In his later years, he enjoyed carpentry, maintenance, and working as a handyman. Richard loved raising flowers and maintained beautiful flower beds. He was a huge Badger fan. He will be remembered as an outgoing, friendly person who could (and did) talk to anyone.

A visitation was held in Madison, Wisconsin, February 18 at the Ryan Funeral Home in Madison, Wisconsin. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 19 at the Old West Paint Creek Lutheran church, rural Waterville, Iowa with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial with military graveside rites were held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, Iowa is assisting with the local arrangements. Honorary pallbearers are Jon Hagen, Taylor Wood, Josh, Jared, and Jacob Estebo. Casket bearers are Duane Estebo, Nolan Hagen, Jim and J.J. Meyer, Jim and Logan Wood.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-mother, Eloise (Brownson) Burdick Meyer, who his father married after his mother had passed away.

He is survived by his sisters, Juliet Wood of Lansing, Iowa, and Mrs. Dennis (Ruth) Provost of Salem, Connecticut; nieces and nephews, Mrs. Duane (Becki) Estebo of Lansing, Iowa, Jim (Michele) Wood of Waukon, Iowa, Mrs. Jon (Amy) Hagen of Waterville, Iowa, Mrs. Brian (Jennifer) Palmer-Wallace of Mystic, Connecticut, Mrs. Stephen (Amanda) Palmer-Ipock of Moyock, North Carolina, Ryan (Jessica) Provost of New Britain, Connecticut, Stephen Provost of Salem, Connecticut; 13 great-nieces and nephews and 1 great-great nephew; his aunt, Ruth McKinney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and many friends.
