Funeral services for Ruby Gass were held Saturday, September 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa. the Rev. Dale Ruosch, Chaplain at the Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in LaCrosse, Wisconsin officiated. Interment was in the Postville, Iowa Cemetery. Casket bearers were Alan Shogren, David Shogren, John Gass, Donald Witt, Milton Koenig, and Verne Koenig.

Ruby Rosina Helen Gass, daughter of Louis and Anna (Witt) Koenig, was born September 19, 1897 in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. She died September 3, 1986 at the Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Ruby attended the local rural schools near the home.

On May 19, 1920 she married Roland W. Gass at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. They farmed south of Postville for several years, moved to Postville, then to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Roland died January 25, 1958. She moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1959. For the past 4 years, she had been a resident of the Bethany Riverside Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roland, and a child who died at birth.

Surviving is her foster/adopted sister, Marie *See note below* and her husband, Norman Shogren of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

*NOTE: Marie was actually Ruby's cousin. Marie was the daughter of John Witt and Augusta Brandt. (See John Witt 1878-1956 obituary Winneshiek County IaGenWeb). John Witt and Anna (Witt) Koenig were brother and sister.

Marie's mother (according to the John Witt obituary) died in February of 1909. However, that date perhaps is wrong based on the birthdate and deathdate of Marie Shogren. According to the social security records, Marie was born November 2, 1909 and died May 15, 2001. Either Marie's birthdate is incorrect or the mother's death is incorrect. Researchers will need to make note of that discrepancy.

Marie had additional brothers and a sister, Rozella (Witt) Backman, Clarence Witt, Delbert Witt,and Walter Witt in addition to half-siblings Charlotte (Witt) Schave, Ray Witt, Donna (Witt) Jones, John Witt, Jr., Irma (Witt) O'Connor, Nelda (Witt) Weaver, and Darlene (Witt) Haugen.
