Waukon resident, Chester R. Barr, Sr. died Tuesday, November 12, 1985 at his home, He was 86 years old. Funeral services were held Friday, November 15 at 1 p.m. from the First Baptist Church which was his home church. The services were conducted by the Rev. Bill Patterson. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Gerry Barr, Craig Barr, Bill Cote, Perry Barr, Bruce Barr, and Brent Barr.

Chester was the son of Frank and Emily (Fish) Barr. He was born March 24, 1899 in North Garryowen in Jackson County, Iowa. He and the former Ethel Swenson were married in Allamakee County on September 5, 1923.

Chester was a farmer and seed corn supervisor. At various times between 1961 and 1972 he was an Allamakee County Deputy Sheriff. Later he was a bailiff for District Court.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Maude, Minnie, Grace, Artie, Fred, Bert, and Harry.

Surviving him are his wife, Ethel; 2 sons, Chester Barr, Jr. of Lansing, Iowa, and Roland Barr of Waukon, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a brother Guy Barr of Postville, Iowa and a sister, Mrs. Donald (Eunice) Taylor of Waukegan, Illinois; and a niece, Mrs. Willis (Hazel Marie Robinson) Schlitter who was raised by Chester's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barr.
