Franklin Lady Called Monday
Services for Mrs. James Powell to be held at Monona Thursday

Mrs. James Powell, one of the oldest residents of Allamakee County, passed away Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ira M. Smith in Franklin township, where she had made the last few years. She was 93 years old.

Mrs. Powell, who was Hannah L. James before her marriage, was born in Woolage County, Kent, five miles from London, England, on August 30, 1845. When she was a year and a half old she came to this country with her parents, and settled in the State of Illinois. In 1855 the family moved to a farm near Myron. On September 1, 1862, She was united in marriage to James Powell, and they lived on a farm near Rossville for many years. Nine children were born to this union, two of whom preceded their parents in death. Mr. Powell died on May 2, 1927.

She leaves to mourn her death her seven children, Mrs. Nettie Newville, who resides in the East, L.C. Powell of McGregor, Minnesota, Mrs. Prudence Cayton of Monona, C.M. Powell of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Mrs. Agnes Ferguson of Brandon, A.L. Powell and Mrs. Ira Smith of Franklin township.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the funeral home in Monona. Intermen will be in the Smithfield Cemetery.
