Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 1 at 1 p.m. for Katinka E. Bechtel, age 71, who died Friday, August 28, 1987 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Pastor Judd Larson will officiate at the services to be held at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers are Robert Fossum, Gordon Steffenson, Robert Hagen, Delbert Winters, Roger Ericson, and Willard Kerndt.

Katinka was born May 13, 1916 in Paint Creek Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to Henry and Gunda (Lunder) Grangaard, Sr. She attended rural Allamakee County schools. On February 20, 1941 she married Frank Bechtel at the Little Brown church in Nashua, Iowa. She was employed as part of the janitorial services for the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Public Schools from 1966 to 1978 and the rest of her life as a homemaker. They lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from 1966 to 1984 when they moved back to Waukon, Iowa. She was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She was a member of the Rachael Circle at OWPC. She was fond of flowers, visiting places, friends and relatives, and dining out.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Robert A. (Melvina) Anderson.

Surviving are her husband, Frank; 2 daughters, Mrs. Roger (Janet) Kruger and Mrs. Raymond (Linda) Riek, both of Waukon, Iowa and a son, Gordon Bechtel of Phoenix, Arizona; 9 grandchildren; a brother Henry Grangaard of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews.
