Dorothy F. Simmons, 80, a resident of the Presbyterian Home in St. Paul, Minnesota, died Thursday, August 20, 1987 at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul. Graveside services were held Saturday August 22, 1987 at 1 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa with the Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiating. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy was born June 14, 1907 in Waukon, Iowa to John H. and Mary (Opfer) Simmons. She graduated from Waukon High School and received her masters degree from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. She had been state extension director of home economics for the University of Minnesota and was a member of St. Anthony Park United Church of Christ in St. Paul, PEO Sisterhood, the Minnesota Adult Education Association, and was a past president of the American Home Economics association. She had traveled to India and South Korea for the United States State Department to study and make recommendations about homemaking and farming. She had co-authored several college texts on home economics.

She was preceded in death by a brother Calvin Simmons and a sister Ruth Simmons.

Surviving are two brothers, Karl Simmons of Waukon, Iowa and John Simmons of Wayzata, Minnesota.

Dorothy Simmons, 80, of St. Paul, Minn. and formerly of Waukon, died Thursday in Bethesda Hospital at St. Paul following a lingering illness.

She was the state extention director for home economics at the University of Minnesota for many years.

Survivors include two brothers, Karl Simmons of Waukon and John Simmons of Wayzata, Minn.

Graveside service: 1 p.m. today, Oakland Cemtery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Martins.
