Robert John Hitner, age 57, of Waukon, Iowa, died Friday May 8, 1987 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 12 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home with burial in Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Lynn Groe officiated.

Robert was born November 4, 1929 in Ada, Minnesota to John and Susan (Keppler) Hitner. He attended Ada schools and served in the Army during World War II. He worked for Duffy and Ludeking Feed Mill. He was a lifelong area resident. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War.

Preceding him in death were 4 brothers, Emil Hitner, Louis Hitner, Paul Hitner, and Melvin Hitner.

Surviving are 3 sons, 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 3 brothers, Howard Hitner, Bill Hitner, and Joe Hitner; and 4 sisters, Edith Bitker, Rose Geller, Della Kroshus, and Marcella Lushen.
