Funeral services were held Monday, June 1 at 11 a.m. for Clarence Michael Gavin, age 74, who died at his home in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Friday May 29, 1987. Father John Smith officiated at the services held at St. Ann-St. Joseph's Church with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Charles and Robert Cota, John Brazell, Frank Saddler, Pat Delaney, and Richard Schulte.

Clarence was born February 26, 1913 in Lansing, Iowa to Michael and Elizabeth (Manning) Gavin. He lived at his parents' home until June 15, 1943 when he married Zita Conway at St. Ann's. They bought the Conway farm and had lived there since their marriage. He was a member of St.Ann-St. Joseph's Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by a brother Joe Gavin.

Survivors include his wife, Zita; 4 daughters, Mrs. B.G. (Regina) Duss, Mrs. Roger (Jeanette) Burch of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Mrs. Jerry (Rita) Wieskamp of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Linda Gavin of Waukon, Iowa; 3 sons, Michael Gavin of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Donald Gavin of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, and Raymond Gavin of Livingston, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; 7 sisters and brothers, Elizabeth Gavin of Dubuque, Iowa, Sister Mary Sheila Gavin of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Mrs. Al (Leona) Ferko of Racine, Wisconsin, Mrs. Grover (Marguerite) Massie of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Mrs. Burt (Alice) Feuerhelm of Lansing, Iowa, Clair Gavin of Racine, Wisconsin, Paul Gavin and Danny Gavin.
