Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services were held Saturday, April 18 at Waterville Lutheran Church for Norma I. Monserud, age 59, who died Tuesday, April 14, 1987 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Pastor Donald Berg officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were David and Dale Monserud, Robert Olson, Randy Goeke, Darryl Palmer, and Howard Sorenson.
Norma was born December 28, 1927 in Clarinda, Iowa to Perry and Nellie (Joslyn) Winger. She attended Lee Grove country schools, graduated from Clarinda High School and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, Iowa. She did post graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa. On April 20, 1952 she married Wilmer Monserud in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a homemaker, a librarian at the Des Moines Public Library for two years, and a school teacher for three years at the Waterville school, one year at Harpers Ferry, Iowa, and 24 years at DeSoto area schools, DeSoto, Wisconsin. She had been an area resident since her marriage and was a member of the Waterville Lutheran Church where she held numerous church offices, the DeSoto Education Association, Wisconsin Education Association, and Winding River library Association.
She was preceded in death by a brother Dale Winger.
Survivors include her husband, 2 daughters Della Monserud of Waterville, Iowa and Louise Wild of Lansing, Iowa; a granddaughter Laurie Wild and a brother Carl Winger of Bedford, Iowa.
