Irene C. Wiedenman 1921-2011

Irene C. Wiedenman, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester, by the Rev. Al Oman and the Rev. Dr. Jean Rabary. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Manchester and one hour before services Monday at the church. Graveside services: 2:30 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Irene was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Postville, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Amanda (Schutte) Sander. Following graduation from Postville, Irene taught at a country school for two years. On May 21, 1942, Irene was united in marriage to Leonard L. Wiedenman at Postville. Making their home in Cedar Rapids, Irene worked as a secretary for the Cedar Rapids Community School District for 22 years.

Irene was a member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester and a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Irene was a great cook and enjoyed her family and grandchildren.

Irene is survived by her husband, Leonard Wiedenman of Manchester; children, Donna Schilling of Cedar Rapids, Carol (Rick) Reed of Gainesville, Ga., and Dennis (Marsha) Wiedenman of Manchester; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne (Jean) Sander of New Hampton.

Irene was preceded in death her parents, Walter and Amanda Sander; and a brother, Willard Sander.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Manchester in Irene’s memory.
