Funeral services were held for Helmer Leyse of Waukon, Iowa Wednesday, October 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Chapel in Waukon, Iowa with the Rev. Judd Larson officiating. Burial was in the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Curtis Lippe, Kevin Leyse, Kelly Leyse, Jeff Holland, Marty Streigle, and Roger Pladsen.

Helmer died Monday October 13, 1986 at Edgewood Convalescent Home at the age of 81 years. He was born January 20, 1905 to Edward G. and Johanna (Swain) Johnson Leyse in Waterville, Iowa. He was educated in local schools. He was baptized and confirmed at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church. On December 12, 1933 he was united in marriage to Myrtle I. Moen in Clermont, Iowa. They made their home in Waukon until 1968 when he lived with his son Donald Leyse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. When his health started to fail he entered the Edgewood Convalescent Home.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Myrtle who died in 1968 and a sister Jeanette Burgess.

Survivors include his son Donald Leyse of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 2 sisters, Mrs. Robert (Mabel) Johnson and Mrs. Harold (Ethel) LeClaire, both of Waukon, Iowa; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
