Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for John "Pete" Spinner, age 69, of Lansing, Iowa who died Thursday November 12, 1987 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa were held Monday, November 16 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, Iowa. Father Herbert Tegeler was the officiant for the 11 a.m. services. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery with Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Wilson Cooper, Raymond Mulholland, Les Stahl, Bob Middendorf, Jack McSweeney, and Bob Sandry.
Pete was born April 14, 1918 in Lansing to Peter J. and Mary Serene Spinner. On October 16, 1944 he and Agatha Wagner were married at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing, Iowa. He was a fish biologist with the Iowa State Conservation Commission before retiring, and was just re-elected to the Lansing city Council earlier this month. He was a member of the immaculate Conception Church where he was a former trustee, the Mississippi Valley Sportsman's club, and other organizations.
In addition to his wife, Agatha, he is survived by a son Robert J. Spinner of Lansing, Iowa, a step-son John H. Gruber of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, a daughter Betty J. Bell of Columbus Junction, Iowa and three brothers Charles P. Spinner, Paul P. Spinner, and Louis P. Spinner, all of Lansing, Iowa.
