Marie D. Rea, age 85, of Waukon, Iowa died Monday February 23, 1987 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. Burial was in St. John the Baptist Church Cemetery with Hanson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Ronald Rea, Robert Hicks, James Rea, Donald Kadera, John Rea, and Patrick Rea. Honorary pallbearers were Patrick Hicks, Richard Rea, John Hicks, and Robert Rea.

Marie was born February 15, 1902 in Waukon, Iowa to Henry and Anna (O'Rourke) Mellick. She attended local schools and Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa. On April 12, 1921 she married Robert J. Rea at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, West Ridge. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Rosary Society and St. Theresa Study Club. She had been a telephone operator, secretary and housewife. She had lived in the West Ridge area and Waukon, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 5 brothers, John Mellick, Maurice Mellick, Cyril Mellick, Walton Mellick, and Milton Mellick, and 2 sisters, Rita and Colette.

Survivors include 3 sons, Raymond F. Rea of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, William J. Rea of Lansing, Iowa and Raphael Rea of Waukon, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. William (Mary) Hicks of Rockford, Illinois; 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. John (Mildred) Kilpatrick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and a brother Urban Mellick of Waukon, Iowa.
