Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Harold W. Peterson, age 79, of Waukon, Iowa, died Saturday, December 20, 1986 in Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. Services were held Tuesday, December 23 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with military rites at graveside with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Tony Schwendinger, Len Feuerhelm, Jim Winke, Elmer Kostman, Karl Mosier, and Dave Martin.
Harold was born February 2, 1907 in Waukon, Iowa to William and Rachael (Osmundson) Peterson. He attended Waukon schools and was a carpenter, postal employee, salesman for Monard Foods, a retail clothing merchant, a construction worker in the local area, and an employee of Feuerhelm Manufacturing for many years. From 1942 to 1945 he served in the Navy in the Pacific Islands during WWII. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Allamakee County Sportsman's Club, Ducks Unlimited, a Boy Scout Leader and member of a veterans group.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Harriet Bechtel and Alice Henning, and a brother James Peterson.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Tom Bechtel of New Albin, Iowa, Karine Luetgert of Geneva, Illinois, and Lynn Henning of Greenville, South Carolina.
