Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Signe E. Martin, age 89, died Thursday, May 15, 1986 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday May 17 at Martin Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Wrangell and the Rev. Michael Bremer officiating. Burial was in the Village Creek Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Ron Stegan, Earl Sanderman, Alvin Aldrich, Edgar Ericson, Harlan Schellhammer, and Robert Hagen. Honorary pallbearers were Theodore Geving, Alden Larson, Melvin Smedsrud, and Adolph Larson.
Signe was born February 11, 1897 to Carl E. and Ida (Erickson) Oster in Center Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. She married Vernon Martin in October of 1928 in Center Township. He died in 1963. She had been a teacher and office worker. She had lived in Michigan, Washington D.C., Lancaster, Massachusetts, and Gentry, Arkansas where she was a teacher for 17 years. She was educated at Oak Park Academy in Nevada and Broadview College in Chicago, Illinois. She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, two brothers, Leonard Oster, and Arnold Oster, and four sisters, Verona, Elvira, Elsie, and Agnes.
Survivors are a sister, Edith Oster of Waukon, Iowa, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
