Shirley A. Umbdenstock, age 35, of Palo, Iowa died Tuesday March 24, 1987 at University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Friday, March 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lycurgus, Allamakee County, Iowa with Fathers Robert Rahe and Larry Duenas officiating. Burial was in Spring Grove Cemetery, Palo, Iowa with graveside services Friday, March 27 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Don Scarlett, Jr. as officiant. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Maynard Johnson, Danny Nierling, Jerry Nierling, Charles Pettit, Kevin Pettit, and Pat Mahoney.

Shirley was born October 12, 1951 in Waukon, Iowa to Leonard and Norma (Muchow) Mellick. She attended Waukon School. She had lived in eastern Iowa all her life. She was a nurse's aide for three years at Pineview Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by a brother Ronnie Mellick and a sister Bonnie Mellick.

Survivors include a son Christopher of Vinton, Iowa; her parents; a brother Leonard Mellick, Jr. of New Albin, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Daniel (Melinda) Ewing of Lansing, Iowa and fiance Doyle Pettit of Palo, Iowa.
