Funeral services are being held at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon at the Schutte Funeral Home for W. J. Hanks, 80, who passed away at Postville Hospital on Sunday. Rev. Walter T. Martin, pastor of the Community Presbyterian Church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Postville Cemetery.
Mr. Hanks had been a resident of this community since boyhood and was in business here as a jeweler for 60 years. He served in the office of town mayor for several years during this time.
Worthy James Hanks, son of George W. and Mary Ann Hanks, was born at Hampton, August 31, 1871. He died at the Postville Community Hospital, Sunday, November 18, 1951 at the age of 80 years.
Mr. Hanks became a resident of Postville when a boy and attended the public schools here.
Worth James Hanks was married to Agnes Dunn on October 6, 1890 at Postville. To this union two sons were born, George Leo and Harry Newell.
Mr. Hanks was a jeweler and a watchmaker in Postville for 60 years. On his sixtieth anniversary in business he sold his store to Marvin Suckow.
Mr. Hanks was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, I. O. O. F. lodge and the Woodman lodge.
Surviving are two sons, George Leo of River Forest, Illinois and Harry Newell of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Mrs. Hanks died August 12, 1949.
