Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Emmet G. Dougherty, age 90, died Saturday, March 1, 1986 at the Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. Services were held on Monday March 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Hanson's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Robert Wagner, Rodney Dougherty, Kenneth Johnson, Joseph Urell, Mark Dougherty, and Mark Sundwall.
Emmet was born September 25, 1895 to John and Mary (McCormick) Dougherty of Waukon, Iowa. He married Irene Bresnahan on April 6, 1920 at St. Mary's Church in Hanover. He attended Allamakee County schools, served in World War I from 1917-1919, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife,Irene; a son, Donald Dougherty; 4 brothers, Joseph Dougherty, Leo Dougherty, Clement Dougherty, and Cyril Dougherty; and a sister, Mae Ronan.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Alice Johnson of Swisher, Iowa, Mrs. John (Lela) Urell of Waukon, Iowa, Mrs. Mark (Helen) Kelley of Faribault, Minnesota, and Mrs. Mark (Mary) Wagner of Lansing, Iowa; 3 sons, John Dougherty of Waukon, Iowa, Joe Dougherty of Elkader, Iowa, and Jim Dougherty of Dorchester, Iowa; 41 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers, William Dougherty and Raymond Dougherty of Freeport, Illinois and Johnnie Dougherty of Waukon, Iowa.
