Edna (Schmieden) Prestemon, age 88, died August 5, 1985 at the Sunnycrest Care Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she was a patient for two months, following surgery at Unity Hospital. Funeral services were held at First Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights, Minnesota with the Rev. Walter E.N. Wahl officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park in St.
Anthony, Minnesota.

Edna was the daughter of Herman and Elizabeth (Dee) Schmieden. Edna was born April 5, 1897 in Allamakee County, Iowa on the family farm now known as the Schmieden Century Farm. It is presently owned and operated by her nephew Wayne Schmieden. Her brother Victor and his wife Violet also reside on this farm. Edna was a Sunday School teacher for many years and a Sunday School superintendent for 19 years. She married Melvin Prestemon on November 11, 1919 at Waukon, Iowa after which time they made their home in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Melvin died in December of 1969. She is also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clarence Schmieden.

She is survived by a daughter, Mildred Fitzgerald; 2 sons, John Prestemon and his wife, a son Roger Prestemon and his wife Marilyn; 3 grandchildren, Beth, Mark and Neil; 3 sisters, Luella Knudtson, Alice Sandry, and Meta Ness, all of Waukon, Iowa; and her brother, Victor Schmieden and his wife, Violet,in addition to nieces and nephews.
