Ronald Carlton Schlitter, now of Sullivan, Illinois, died Saturday March 7, 1987 at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, Illinois. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Reed's Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul McGhahy of Faith Lutheran Church. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan, Illinois with military services. Reed's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were David Mauleg, Russ Laird, Elmer (Bud) Gerhardt, and Ronald Engelhardt.

Ronald was born March 11, 1936 in Allamakee County, Iowa to Carlton and Mardella (Kruse) Schlitter. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. He attended Figgie school and graduated from the M-F-L High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1958, serving in New York, Mississippi, Iceland, and Rapid City, South Dakota. On December 12, 1958 he married Sharen Engelhardt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He worked for airports in Chicago, Rockford, and Vandalia, Illinois and Kansas City, Missouri. He worked as an air traffic controller for the F.A.A. for 14 years in Decatur, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Sharen; his parents, Carlton and Mardella Schlitter of Monona, Iowa; a daughter Mrs. Kurt (Brenda) Pierce of Sullivan, Illinois; 2 sons, Sgt. Dennis Schlitter of Bitburg, Germany, and Randy Schlitter at home; a sister, Mrs. James (Beverly) Walsh of Waukon, Iowa; 2 brothers, Eugene Schlitter of Monona, Iowa and Dr. Duane Schlitter of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; 3 granddaughters, Paula and Kelly Pierce, and Katherine Schlitter; his grandmother, Bertha Kruse of Monona, Iowa.
