Karl W. Hein, age 79, of LaCrescent, Minnesota died Friday, August 11, 1989 in Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wisconsin following a long illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the United Methodist Church, LaCrescent with the Revs. Douglas and Louise Gordon-Denniston officiating. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, LaCrescent, Minnesota. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of LaCrescent was in charge of arrangements.

Karl was born in Jefferson Township, rural Houston County, Minnesota to Henry and Anna (Kruckenberg) Hein. He married Katherine Johnson in 1934 in Elmhurst, Illinois. He attended rural schools in Jefferson Township. For most of his adult life he owned and operated Hein Orchard in LaCrescent, Minnesota, working in partnership with his son, Henry Karl Hein, who died November 15, 1984. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, LaCrescent, Minnesota.

In addition to his son, he was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine; a daughter, Betty Lou Hein of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a sister, Wilhelmina Meiners of Caledonia, Minnesota and nieces and nephews.
