Funeral services for Almeda Boardman were held on Wednesday December 22, 1999 at the Rossville Presbyterian Church, Rossville, Iowa at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Walker, and Pastor Gene Kramer officiating. Interment was at the IOOF Cemetery in Rossville, Iowa. Casket Bearers were Richard Boardman, Robert Swanson, John Boardman, Jr., John Boardman III, Jim Boardman, Jim Boardman, Jr., Charles Decker, Jeff Augustine, and Ernie Burroughs.

Almeda Rachel Boardman was born September 25, 1916 in the Waukon Junction area of Allamakee County, Iowa. Her parents were Orley and Rachel (Douglas) LeHew. She attended rural elementary school in Fairview Township, Harpers Ferry High School, and graduated from Waukon High School in Normal Training. She attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa where she graduated cum laude and continued to work toward a masters degree at Northfield, Minnesota and Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. On February 23, 1935 she married John Boardman at the Presbyterian parsonage in Waukon, Iowa. She taught school at the rural "Egan" and "Fish" schools and also taught at the schools in Waterville, Waukon, Luana, and Monona for a total of 40 years of teaching.

Almeda was a member of Delta Gamma Honor Society, the Allamakee County Retired Teachers Association, a former office holder in the Iowa Future Teachers of American Organization, Rossville Presbyterian Church and its ladies groups and a former member of Rebecca Lodge. She enjoyed gardening and raised flowers and vegetables. She was also an avid reader, liked to travel, enjoyed dancing, and playing cards. She was particularly fond of following her children's and grandchildren's activities and attending family events.

Almeda is preceded in death by her parents and 5 brothers, Noble, Sidney, Lloyd, Robert, and Ralph "Pat" LeHew.

Survivors include her husband John of Monona, Iowa, 1 daughter, Barbara and husband Robert Swanson of Thornton, Colorado; 3 sons, Richard and wife, Charlene, and Jim and wife Mary Ann, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and John, Jr. and wife Karen of LeHigh, Florida; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 sisters, Hattie Merton of Lafayette, Indiana, Ardee Fascher of Farmersburg, Iowa, and Ethel Atkinson of Fortville, Indiana.

Almeda Rachel (LeHew) Boardman, age 83, of Monona, Iowa died Sunday December 19, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

The newspaper obituary stated Almeda and John Boardman married February 3, 1935 but the funeral bulletin had stated February 23, 1935. Researchers will need to find from another source which date is correct.
