The death of Earl Reed Kelly occurred Thursday in Independence, Iowa following an illness of 20 years in which he was the victim of multiple sclorosis. During his prolonged invalidism, he was tenderly cared for by his devoted wife until a year ago when her health became impaired and it became necessary for him to receive hospitalized care.

The deceased was the son of Jessie L. and Angie (Robey) Kelly, well known residents of the Rossville, Iowa community where he was born on March 22, 1892. He spent the greater portion of his life in Allamakee County. He attended the Lime Springs, Iowa High School and the Waukon, Iowa business college.

On March 21, 1914 he married Miss Nora Catherine Pettit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They returned to the farm near Rossville where they resided until 1925 when they moved to Waukon, Iowa. Mr. Kelly was a member of the local Masonic Lodge and the Consistory at Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Martin Funeral Home with Rev. A.H. Grossheim, pastor of the Presbyterian church which Mr. Kelly belonged to conducting the services. Burial was in the Oakland cemetery. Pallbearers were Floyd Larson, Frank Bulman, L.J. Bulman, Will Peterson, Albert Dierauer, and R.J. Waters.

His survivors are his wife, Nora and two daughters, Gwen (Mrs. Truman Slitor) of Waukon, Iowa and Evelyn Lorraine (Mrs. Stanley Fox) of Paint Creek township, Rossville, Iowa. Also he is survived by his father Jess Kelly and his brother Creston C."Pinger" Kelly of Waukon and two grandsons, Truman Wentworth Slitor and James Slitor. He was preceded in death by his mother who passed away in 1936.
