Lorna M. Howe, 86, of Waukon, died Mon., Aug. 21, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.
Funeral services will be held Wed., Aug. 23, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Allen M. Schmitt officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 4 p.m. scripture service. A memorial fund has been established.
Lorna Matilda Kilpatrick Howe was born Jan. 11, 1914, on the Union Prairie Township rural Waukon farm of her parents, Charles Samuel and Sarah Agnes (Ryan) Kilpatrick. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist, West Ridge, Catholic Church. Lorna attended the rural "Stone School," St. Vincent's Academy in Dubuque, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1933. She worked for a time as a housekeeper for the Hart family and for several years as a clerk at the J.C. Penny and Weiss Shoe Stores in Waukon. On Nov. 27, 1941, she married Charles Edmund "Tubby" Howe at St. John the Baptist, West Ridge, Catholic Church.
She worked with Tubby as a bookkeeper and helper in their implement dealership and trucking business and later at the laundromat and mobile home park they operated in Waukon for many years.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. Martin Study Club. Lorna enjoyed camping, traveling, and riding around the countryside. She loved spending time with her family and was particularly fond of children.
Lorna is preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Robert; brothers, Harry, Charles, and Jack Kilpatrick; and a sister, Helen Mellick.
Survivors include her husband, Charles, of Waukon; a son, Wayne (Janice) Howe of Waukon; a brother, Edward (Helen) Kilpatrick of Longmont, CO; two sisters, Leona Drew and Mary Howes, both of Waukon; a sister-in-law, Lilahann Kilpatrick of Waukon; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Casketbearers will be her grandchildren, Angela Cooper, Rebecca Decker, Matt, John, Daniel, Thomas, and Zachary Howe.
Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is assisting the family.
