Funeral services for a former Waukon, Iowa man, James Francis Pratt, age 70, were held at Behr's Funeral Home in Dubuque, Iowa Friday, July 7. He died July 4, 1989 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. The Rev. Steve Rosonke of Holy Ghost Church officiated and burial was in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa.

Full military honors were accorded the veteran of World War II by Dubuque American Legion Post #6. He received the purple heart for injuries received in that war. Casket bearers were Bill and Don Brimeyer, Gartha and John Tomkins, Justin Droessler, and John Schilling.

James was born September 27, 1918 in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Royal and Mary (McNamara) Pratt. He married Lucille Drenning in Dubuque, Iowa on July 1, 1950. She survives as does a son, Robert P. McBride, Monticello, Iowa; two grandchildren and a brother Urban Pratt of Hemet, California.

James had been employed at the Dubuque Packing Company for the past 25 years, and before that worked for Farley and Loetcher and Maizewood Industries in Dubuque, Iowa.

Pfc. James Pratt in D-Day Invasion of France
Waukon, Ia. - Pfc. James Pratt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pratt, of Waukon, has been missing in action in France since July 29, according to a War Department message received by his parents Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Pratt a week ago received a letter from their son, in which he stated he was in a rest camp but expected to go back into action again soon.

His father is a veteran of the Spanish-American War.

Pfc. Pratt, serving with the tank corps, arrived in England two years ago, and took part in the invasion of France on D-Day. He enlisted in the Army five years ago, serving at various posts in the United States until he went to England.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Charles, who is in service at fort Dix, N.J. and three sisters, Mrs. Ray Mootz, Dubuque; Mrs. Will Mulzenna, Waukon; and Mrs. Ronald Stabelle, Harmony, Minn.
