Evelyn W. Dougherty, age 78, of Freeport, Illinois died Wednesday, February 1, 1989 at Freeport Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at Schwarz Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St.Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald DeSalvio officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Freeport.

Evelyn was born October 17, 1910 in New Albin, Iowa to Michael and Margaret (Danaher) Ryan. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterloo, Iowa in 1929. On June 10, 1935 she married Ray Dougherty in Dorchester, Iowa. They had lived in Freeport since their marriage and she was a 33 year employee of Burgess Battery. She was a member of the 25 Year Club of Burgess Battery, St.Mary Catholic Church, St.Mary's Guild, Ladies of the Elks, and Monday Night Bowling League.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother. Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Maureen) Davidson of Freeport, Illinois; a son Gene of Yorktown Heights, New York; two sisters, Mrs. Vernon (Mae) Petrehn of Peoria, Illinois and Mrs. Alvin (Gretta) Lane of Waterloo, Iowa, and six grandchildren.
