Gary LeRoy Dahlstrom

Gary L. Dahlstrom, 55, of Waukon, died of a heart attack Thurs., Aug. 9, 2001, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

Funeral services were held Mon., Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. at Center Baptist Church in rural Lansing with the Reverend Reuben Grueneich officiating. Burial with graveside military rites followed in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon handled funeral arrangements.

Gary LeRoy Dahlstrom was born Sept. 28, 1945, in McGregor, the son of Howard and Margaret (Lomen) Dahlstrom. He attended elementary classes at Elk and Fan Country Schools in rural Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1963. From 1967-1971 Gary served in the Army National Guard. Gary farmed, worked at construction, and worked for Rogness Sawmill for several years.

On May 31, 1980, Gary married Roberta McGeough at Center Baptist Church. He continued farming and also started and developed Dahlstrom Logging Company. The past several years he has also done excavation and earth moving work.

Gary was active in the Waukon Wrestling Club, Pheasants Forever, was a loyal supporter of numerous community and school organizations, and sponsored a city co-ed softball team.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and finding mushrooms. He was a devoted follower of his children's activities and enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing trips to Canada, and meeting his friends for coffee every morning.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Howard, and his sister, Sandra.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta, of Waukon, and their three children, Brian, a student in Des Moines, and Laurie and Lamista, both at home. He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Dahlstrom of Waterville; three sisters, Elinor (Dan) Emerson of Des Moines, Karen (Gordon) Anderson of Waterville, and Linda (Jim) Seibert of Waukon; and three brothers, Roger (Carol) Dahlstrom of Ankeny, Bruce (Patty) Dahlstrom of Waukon, and Keith (Cathy) Dahlstrom of Cedar Falls.

Honorary casket bearers were Gene Shogren, Dave Bell, Gary Soper, Dick Michels, Rich Schultz, Gordon Engen, Gene May and Mike Ryan. Casket bearers were Ron Curtin, Curt Brandsmeier, Nick Jones, Roger Ericson, Tom Kuennen, Roger Ellefson, Mike Klees, and Bruce Meador.
