Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 31 for Gena O.Rood, 80, who died Tuesday, December 27, 1988 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. The 1:30 p.m. services will be conducted by Pastor Mark DeGarmeaux and Vicar Richard Tragasz at West Synod Lutheran Church, Waterville, Iowa. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home of Waukon in charge of arrangements.Casket bearers are Orville Nelson, Richard Asleson, Dale Asleson, Cletus Rood, Roger Asleson, and Eugene Asleson.

Gena was born April 11, 1908 in Waterville, Iowa to Knute and Hattie (Erickson) Asleson. She attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Waterville High School. On August 24, 1933 she married Ove C. Rood in Decorah, Iowa. He died July 28, 1981. She was a lifetime area resident, a farmwife, homemaker, and for ten years worked in the dietary department of Veterans Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Farm Bureau, Waukon Senior Citizens, and West Synod Lutheran Church where she was a member of Ladies Aid.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Nelson and Esther Hermanson.

Surviving are a son Wesley Rood of Waukon, Iowa, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, Alice Rood of Decorah and Mrs. Clem (Hazel) Riek of Lansing; two brothers, Eilert Asleson of Spring Green, Wisconsin and Albert Asleson of Waterville, Iowa.
