Army Pvt. Daniel Blake Nesheim, 19, of Lakeside, California died Wednesday, May 17, 1989 of injuries sustained when he was trying to push his stalled car off Hwy. 67 in El Cajon, CA and was hit by a drunk driver. Funeral services have been set for Thursday, May 25 at 2 p.m. at Center Baptist Church in Waukon, Iowa. Pastor Mark Aurand will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be an honor guard and color guard at the gravesite for full military rites.

He was born September 29, 1969 in rockford, Illinois to Lynn and Darlene (Ericson) Nesheim and they moved to California when he was six months old. He attended local schools there and graduated from El Capitan High School in Lakeside in 1987. He joined the Army and received basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Kansas, attended jump school in Fort Benning, Georgia and rigging school in Fort Lee, Virginia. He was home on leave when the accident happened and was scheduled to leave for Korea. He loved to sky dive and enjoyed baseball.

Surviving are his parents, a sister Cynthia Nesheim of Lakeside, CA, and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Ericson of Waukon, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nesheim of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
