Funeral services were held Saturday, May 13 for Gordon C. Orness, 64, who died Wednesday May 10, 1989 at his home in Marion, Iowa. The 2 p.m. services were conducted by Rev. Richard Lehmann and Rev. Steve Waughtal at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion. Burial was in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with Murdoch Service in charge of arrangements.

He was born February 20, 1925. His parents were Gilbert and Mary (Ellefson) Orness. On August 15, 1947 he married Bessie Barney in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII. For 25 years he owned G.C. Orness Sales Company in Marion and was vice-president of Denny's Muffler in Marion. He had been a resident of Marion for 36 years and was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion Lodge No. 6, A.F. and A.M. and Marion Post No. 298, American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter Michelle Burgess, Marion, Iowa; a son Michael Orness, North Liberty, Iowa; 3 grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Flage, Waukon, Iowa and Dosha Bakken, Wayzata, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by a son Carey Orness.
