Everett H. Ellefson, 83, of Waukon, died Sunday evening, May 15, 2005, at his home in Waukon, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 19 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be in Old East Paint Creek Cemetery, rural Waterville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Everett Hardin Ellefson was born March 9, 1922, in Paint Creek Township, rural Waterville, Iowa, the son of Eilert Hagbart and Helen Katinka (Lier) Ellefson. He was baptized at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church, confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, and attended the Waterville School.
On November 9, 1946, he married Leota Brumm in La Crosse, Wis. Everett farmed his entire working life on the Ellefson Family Century Farm in Paint Creek Township. He loved the farm life and was a good steward of both land and livestock, taking special care to teach his children and grandchildren the lessons he learned. In 1975 Everett and Leota moved to Waukon but he continued to work alongside his son Roger and grandson Ross up until 2002.
Everett was a member of the Little Switzerland of Iowa Harmonizers, the Waterville School Board of Education, Farm Bureau, and served on various board positions at the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a patient and caring man who enjoyed watching the crops grow, fishing with his grandchildren, traveling, golf, following the Cubs, and just being around his family who loved him dearly.
Survivors include his wife Leota of Waukon; a daughter, Susan (Joe) Papp of Milwaukee, Wis.; a son, Roger (Lynn) Ellefson of Waterville; a sister, Carma Myers of Waterville; three grandsons, Tom (Kim) Papp of Indianapolis, Ind., Ross Ellefson of Waterville, and John Papp of Jacksonville, Fla.; three granddaughters, Nikki (Jason) Sullivan of Waukon, Julie Papp of Ames, Iowa, and Kristin Ellefson of Waterville; three great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; a sister-in-law, Eunice (Bill) Newhouse of Longboat Key, Fla.; two nephews; and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson, David Papp.
Honorary casketbearers are Jack Greeny, Bill Newhouse, Curtis Piggott, Charles Ebner, Bob Anderson, Orlean Ellefson, Leo McCormick, Ricky Myers, and Gene Myers. Casketbearers are Julie, John, Joe, and Tom Papp, Ross and Kristin Ellefson, and Nikki and Jason Sullivan.
