Edward Loomis, 68, died Oct. 26, 2000, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Mon., Oct. 30, at United Methodist Church in Lansing under the direction of Rev. Henry Grant. Interment with military rites will take place at a later date.
Edward Lee Loomis was born June 13, 1932, in Rusk County, WI, the son of Roy and Elgia Loomis. He attended school in Lansing. Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1949-1952. He was stationed in Korea.
On Aug. 12, 1950, he married Marie Sheriff of Lansing in Jeffersonville, IN. The couple lived in Decorah from 1953 to 1974, where Ed owned and operated Ed's Commercial Refrigeration. From 1974 to 1979, Ed served as maintenance superintendent for Nelco in Franklin, IN; from 1979-1992, he worked as maintenance engineer for Westinghouse in California. Following retirement, the couple returned to the midwest, operating the Loomis Landing marina in Andalusia, IL, until his death. The couple had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this past summer.
Ed loved the Mississippi River and enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He looked forward to his October elk hunting trips in Colorado with his sons and brother-in-law.
Ed is survived by his wife, Marie; four sons, Lee, Dennis, George, and Tom; a daughter, Jenine; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty; a brother, Ernie; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were grandsons Tyler Loomis, Ryan Loomis, Nick Loomis, Zach Loomis, Geno Ray Roderick, Cory Roderick, and Jacob Hall.
Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home of Lansing assisted the family.
