Contributor: Connie Ellis (Schlitter researcher)Lillian H. Schlitter was born March 12, 1924 to Melvin and Clara (Gunderson) Helgerson on their rural Clermont, Iowa farm. She attended rural schools in northeast Iowa. On October 27, 1943 she married J. Everett Schlitter at Pilgrim Evangelical Church in Monona. They farmed in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County, Iowa from 1945 - 1984. Everett died January 11, 1984. Lillian moved to Waukon, Iowa in 1984. She was active in St. John's Lutheran Church and its women's circles.
Lillian died Friday, November 8, 1996 at her home in Waukon. She was 72 years of age. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Robert, two brothers, Milton Helgerson and Clarence Helgerson, and a sister, Iva Simpson.
Surviving are three sons and their wives, Roger and Susan of Mason City, Iowa, Stanley and Sheila of Winnetka, IL, and David and Lori of Gladbrook, Iowa; a sister, Elizabeth Aglipay of Palm Springs, CA; three brothers, Emmett and his wife Betty Helgerson of Bisbee, AZ, Millard Helgerson of Moorland, Iowa, and Morton Helgerson of Ames, Iowa, and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. November 12, 1996 at St.John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Arthur, James, and Richard Simpson, Milo Helgerson, Gary Larson, and Mary Helgerson Bakken.
